Sponsor Inforation

Choosing your sponsor

- A sponsor is a companion in the faith. A sponsor does not need to know everything about God!(who does??)

-Your sponsor needs to be a baptized and confirmed Catholic and at least 16 years old.

-You can choose a friend or a relative (but not your parent), a teacher or someone at the parish.Hopefully, your sponsor is someone you look up to, at least in terms of faith.

-Your sponsor information form is to be returned in your large envelope at the Rite of Enrolment Mass on March 4th (9:00 a.m.)

Please Give your Sponsor this Pamphlet...

...and This Small Handout

(both are in your large envelope)

These are for the sponsor's personal reflection. Sponsors do not need to return these to the church.

Day of Confirmation

Your sponsor is not required to be at the church on any day other than Day of Confirmation. (But you can invite them to be with you anytime of course!)

On the day of Confirmation, you and your sponsor should try to arrive by 4:30 p.m. In the downstairs hall, you will each receive flowers (corsage or boutonniere).

During the Mass, you and your sponsor will come forward to the bishop. Your sponsor will place his or her hand on your shoulder while you are anointed. WE WILL DISCUSS THIS AND REHEARSE THIS CLOSER TO THE DAY - YOU DO NOT NEED TO WORRY ABOUT THIS NOW!

PROXIES

If, for some reason, your sponsor cannot attend on the Day of Confirmation, do not panic! You can ask someone else to stand in as a proxy. This means that your Confirmation sponsor is still the person you have selected, but someone else represents your sponsor and stands behind you with his or her hand on your shoulder.
